  • May 24, 2017  AKAI MPK Mini MKII 25-Key USB MIDI Controller: When it comes to the $100 range or so, we are still loving AKAI’s MPK Mini MKII 25-Key USB MIDI Controller. It is an Amazon best-seller for a reason. AKAI makes really good quality gear (especially the MPK line, I have been using it for years).
  • Click the above image to register your MPK Mini Play with AKAI. Setup and Connections. Setting up your MPK Mini Play couldn’t be easier. The keyboard can be powered two ways: with a wired USB connection or by using three AA batteries to go wireless. The battery option is ideal for mobile use, especially if you want to jam or create with.
  • I need a little help with my MIDI keyboard (Akain MPK mini mkII), (DAW: Garageband). The keys work great, but I don't know how to assign the pads to the sounds I want to play (drum kits).
  • Oct 24, 2013  Last night, I was playing around on Garageband on my Apple Laptop. I was using my portable keyboard (I have an Akai MPK Mini) as the drums. There is a built in series of drums. They have 'Rock Drums' 'Hip-Hop Drums' 'Jazz Drums' etc. Anyway, I don't know what I did, but somehow, the 'Rock Drums' are now the exact same as the 'Jazz Drums'.
Here for the gear

Why does Garageband sometimes not recognise drum pads on my MIDI controller?

I have an Akai MPK Mini Play that I plug in directly to my Mac while running Garageband. Half the time when I add a built in drum sound track (like Portland or SoCal) the pads don't respond at all. I know my midi controller is sending stuff because it responds when I hit the keys and when I hit the PAD BANK A/B button (the pads respond but everything is in a different place). Then the next time I boot up GB the pads respond perfectly like nothing ever happened. What's going on?
